InnoTrans 2022 gave us the opportunity to talk about the ÖBB's large-scale order to modernize its fleet of maintenance vehicles. As part of this order, we are supplying a total of 56 zero-emission, high-performance maintenance vehicles with environmentally friendly hybrid drives. They will ensure high track availability and reliable operation on the ÖBB network. This year, we will be presenting the CatenaryCrafter 15.4 E³ C/B/I (Catenary/Battery/Internal combustion engine) at the outdoor exhibition grounds. The machine is specially optimized for assembly work on overhead contact line systems.

Flexible and safe working on the overhead contact line

The CatenaryCrafter is equipped with a railway crane including a personnel basket with a large radius of action and enables working right up to the top of the mast. Three different positions can be worked on simultaneously with the three-part elevating work platform, ensuring safety at the workplace and good accessibility to all relevant overhead contact line components.

Newly developed drive technology for emission-free operation and high traction power

The innovative drive system allows the use of three different energy sources for the electrified drivetrain. Where available, energy from the overhead contact line is used. In construction sections where no overhead contact line is available, a battery pack with a capacity designed for an entire work shift provides the power. In addition, the machine can also be operated via a diesel-electric power pack as a fallback level. The power pack can also be used with synfuels. The high transfer speeds of up to 120 km/h and the European Train Control System (ETCS) installed alongside the national train control system (PZB) ensure that the train reaches its destination safely and quickly.
