The Plasser CompactFlex 4x4, which will be presented at the outdoor exhibition grounds of InnoTrans this year, is a versatile and compact tamping machine for plain-line tracks and turnouts. It is one of a series of 41 machines that are being manufactured as part of a major order for the state railway company TRC in Taiwan. Based on Plasser & Theurer’s technology for compact tamping machines that has been tried and tested for decades, this new series has been further developed in a modular design.

Optimum turnout maintenance with the Plasser CompactFlex 4x4

Turnout maintenance requires a high degree of flexibility, as different turnout designs require special adjustments. The machine on display is equipped with a 4x4 tamping unit that is optimized for these challenges. Thanks to the split-head technology, the four work unit segments can be individually moved sideways and lowered. Each of the 16 tamping tines can be swivelled upwards as required, allowing effective tamping even in tight spaces. The lifting and lining unit is equipped with roller lifting clamps and a lifting hook to lift the track even in places that are difficult to reach. In addition, a 3rd-rail lifting unit ensures even distribution of the lifting forces and protects the components of the superstructure.

Create a track geometry the modern way using digital tools

The Plasser CompactFlex 4x4 on display is equipped with the user-friendly and powerful Plasser IntelligentControl (P-IC) control system. The SmartALC track geometry guiding computer ensures optimum work preparation for perfect tamping results and enables the machine to be used in both the precision and the compensation method. The DRP (Data Recording Processor) documents all relevant track and working parameters, such as tamping depth and lifting values, and thus supports proof reports. With Plasser Datamatic, the machine has an advanced cloud-based machine and fleet management system that can remotely retrieve current machine statuses and perform long-term analyses to increase availability, efficiency, and productivity. True to the motto: "From Data to Value".

Further development for more occupational safety and ergonomics

The new cab design improves occupational safety and ergonomics. For example, the measuring chords are now located outside the cab, and it is possible to integrate split air conditioning units. In addition, upgrades, retrofits, and the integration of digital tools and measuring systems are now much easier.
