Plasser & Theurer and Siemens Mobility agree on partnership for long-term ETCS collaboration

At this year's InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin, Plasser & Theurer and Siemens Mobility signed a partnership agreement on a future collaboration pertaining to ETCS on-board equipment. Siemens Mobility will act as supplier for the on-board ETCS system.

Both companies have succeeded in building on a standard ETCS system architecture that allows synergies to be utilized in engineering and handling despite the high degree of vehicle variance. In future, a wide range of track construction and maintenance machines from the
Plasser & Theurer portfolio will be equipped with the European Train Control System ETCS Level 2 according to the same technical concept.

Standard system architecture makes ETCS equipment for track construction and maintenance machines more flexible and simpler

The joint framework agreement allows Plasser & Theurer and Siemens Mobility to deploy a uniform ETCS standard architecture for use on various types of vehicles in the “yellow fleet”. The technical concept is designed to be flexible so that different series can be operated with the same on-board platform. Use in different countries and the connection to national security systems is also guaranteed. The companies’ partnership and ongoing collaboration will allow synergies to be leveraged, resulting in more efficient and faster handling, even for small fleets. Equipped with ETCS L2 in accordance with current European interoperability specifications, the vehicles are equipped for Europe-wide use in the railway sector.

“The standard architecture of our proven ETCS on-board technology will help our customer Plasser & Theurer to deliver their customized rail vehicles for the European network faster and more cost-effectively. We are very pleased about this collaboration.” André Rodenbeck, CEO of Siemens Mobility Rail Infrastructure

“We are delighted to have Siemens Mobility as a reliable partner and expert in train protection. As a supplier of track construction and maintenance machines, we serve a wide range of requirements. We are confident that the Siemens ETCS system will allow us to respond flexibly to customer requests.” Johannes Max-Theurer, CEO of Plasser & Theurer
